چکیده

Abstract: Combining iterative schemes with suitable preconditioners may improve the rate of the convergence of the methods. However, the real difficulty lies in the construction of the correct preconditioners applied to the formulated schemes. In this paper, the Modified Explicit Decoupled Group Successive Over-Relaxation method is formulated to solve the two dimensional steady-state Navier-Stokes equations. A new block splitting preconditioned matrix is applied to the formulated scheme as an effort to accelerate the convergence rate. Numerical experiments are carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the preconditioner in terms of accuracy and execution timings. Comparison with its unpreconditioned counterpart will also be reported.

Numerical solution of the one dimensional non-linear Burgers equation using the Adomian decomposition method and the comparison between the modified Local Crank-Nicolson method and the VIM exact ‎solution

The Burgers’ equation is a simplified form of the Navier-Stokes equations that very well represents their non-linear features. In this paper, numerical methods of the Adomian decomposition and the Modified Crank – Nicholson, used for solving the one-dimensional Burgers’ equation, have been compared. These numerical methods have also been compared with the analytical method. In contrast to...

A Characteristic-based Split Finite Volume Algorithm for the Solution of Incompressible Flow Problems

The characteristic-based split (CBS) method has been widely used in the finite element community to facilitate the numerical modeling of the Navier-Stokes equations. In this paper a CBS-based finite volume algorithm is introduced for the solution of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The proposed method is implemented on a co-located grid arrangement and employs a transient fractional step...

Robust implicit preconditioning and applications

Preconditioning is the most common approach for accelerating an iterative method and consists in solving an auxilliary problem structurally close to the original one. In most situations, the art of preconditioning consists in building in a efficient way a matrix or a sequence of matrices. This explicit approach is not however always possible and there are situations in which preconditioned vers...

Steady state convergence acceleration of the generalized lattice Boltzmann equation with forcing term through preconditioning

Several applications exist in which lattice Boltzmann methods (LBM) are used to compute stationary states of fluid motions, particularly those driven or modulated by external forces. Standard LBM, being explicit time-marching in nature, requires a long time to attain steady state convergence, particularly at low Mach numbers due to the disparity in characteristic speeds of propagation of differ...

Comparison of three different numerical schemes for 2D steady incompressible lid-driven cavity flow

In this study, a numerical solution of 2D steady incompressible lid-driven cavity flow is presented. Three different numerical schemes were employed to make a comparison on the practicality of the methods. An alternating direction implicit scheme for the vorticity-stream function formulation, explicit and implicit schemes for the primitive variable formulation of governing Navier-Stokes equatio...
